Chlorination of a well in most cases should not be done by dumping bleach down the well. Bleach only has a germicidal effect for approximately 6 months after <\/a><\/span>the date of manufacture so most of the time it won’t work effectively against bacteria. Bleach is also very corrosive and the money you save now by not calling in a professional will be spent later along with much much more. Also when you call a professional they might see something else you don’t.<\/div>\n
If you’re shocking your well regularly because of a rotten egg odor there are many ways to treat this smell that are much more effective.<\/div>\n

Depending on the level and type of bacteria, you don’t have to hit the panic button. Most coliform bacteria are not harmful. However, some can make you sick. There are a some bacteria that you should be concerned about, like E.Coli and fecal coliform.<\/p>\n

The most likely harmful bacteria that could show up on your water test is E. Coli. If E. Coli shows up in a water test we can treat and inspect your well.<\/p>\n

Yes there could be bacteria in your well, if it is unsealed and not up to current code. However, it is more unlikely in newer wells that met current code. Modern well construction is much less likely to be contaminated with bacteria than older large diameter wells. Water testing should be done if there is a concern. If bacteria is present, your well should be treated and inspected.<\/p>\n
